I am a teacher and author of both children’s and adult books. Kids Write! is a blog emerging from my successful experiences using a playful approach to teaching.

We all need a reason to write. Children are no different. Teaching children to write is a struggle when we expect them to write for adult reasons that have little reality in a child’s world. During my twenty years of teaching writing, I found children at all levels eager to extend their play and pretend, solve problems, share stories, and plan new adventures by writing.

Whether you are a parent, teacher, or writer, this blog is for those who want to bring adventure, magic, and play to children through writing.
It is my hope to:

  • Share playful writing activities that kids enjoy
  • Gain feedback and comments to expand on these activities
  • Engage in discussions about teaching writing.
  • Create a space for others to share their Play to Write ideas

I look forward to hearing your ideas, stories, and activities to keep writing fun and meaningful for young writers.

Keep visiting to make discoveries and share your own Kids Write! Ideas.

  1. I’ve just set up a blog about story stones. Have you tried using these? My son’s school (nursery and reception classes – ages 3-5) like them and my son and niece think they’re fun too.

    • Hi Kathryn,
Love your story stones. What a fun idea. I think it is important for children to use natural objects in their play.

Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with Search Engine Optimization? I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains. If you know of any please share. Many thanks! bgkaegdekbef
